By joining us as a volunteer, you’ll play an important role in educating and engaging our park visitors on wildlife conservation.

Docents are stationed at various locations in our parks to interact with guests so that the latter can enjoy meaningful and memorable wildlife experiences. Through sharing of interesting animal facts, stories and anecdotes, docents help to engage and inspire our guests to care for wildlife. 

Pre-requisites

  1. 21 years old and above
  2. Deep interest in nature and wildlife
  3. Keen interest in engaging guests on wildlife conservation

Recruitment

  1. Twice yearly, April and September
  2. Interview and selection process
  3. Registration fee: $150

Training

  1. 8-week training programme, usually on weekends
  2. The training is divided into two phases: 
    • Common phase - induction for trainee docents to understand the WRS vision, mission, core values, strategic thrusts and the unique offerings of its four parks.
    • Station-based training - at the end of the common phase training, trainee docents select the station of their choice and if successful, proceeds to understudy the existing docents at the selected station

Commitment

Monthly volunteer duty for at least a year after the training

Conservation ambassadors are youth volunteers who take on the role as guides at our parks. They promote conservation awareness while providing meaningful and memorable wildlife experiences for guests.

Pre-requisites

  • Be between 15 - 21 years old  
  • Deep interest in nature and wildlife   
  • Keen interest in engaging guests on wildlife conservation

Recruitment

  • 2 times a year for each park    
  • Registration fee: $25 

Training

  • 2 full-day training, usually on consecutive Saturdays or Sundays
  • Evaluation on the second day of training

Commitment

  • Monthly volunteer duty for at least 6 months after the training and evaluation
Wildlife Buddies (Student groups only)

Wildlife Buddies are short-term volunteers who serve as buddies (guides) for their peers, younger students or the disadvantaged to facilitate meaningful and memorable visits to our parks. This is most suitable for students who wish to volunteer in groups and give back to the society.

Training will be provided for participants to qualify as Wildlife Buddies.

Suitable for

  • Students from primary 5 and above

Training

  • 7-hour training which can be a full-day session or spread over 2
    days   
  • $20 per participant. This includes admission for training and
    guiding days
  • Minimum of 25 participants per training session

Guiding       

  • Students will return on a separate day for guiding

Zoology volunteers assist our keepers in their daily duties. This includes cleaning of animal facilities, food preparation, feeding the animals, undertaking behavioural and environmental enrichment improvements and other tasks.

Pre-requisites

  • Students in zoology or veterinary courses
  • 18 years of age and above
  • Have a valid flu vaccination during the volunteer period

Commitment 

  • 4 weeks (5 days per week)

Training        

  • Singaporeans and Permanent Residents: S$30
  • Others: S$250

Veterinary volunteers provide appropriate assistance to veterinary staff during animal treatment. They will also take care of animals at the wards and help with general upkeep of the animal hospital.

Pre-requisites

  • Veterinary students who are at least in their third year of clinical study during the volunteer period
  • Have a valid flu vaccination during the volunteer period

Commitment 

  • 2 weeks (5 days per week)

Training

  • Singaporeans and Permanent Residents: S$30
  • Others: S$250

Throughout the year, we organize different events at our parks to engage guests.  The events are edutainment in nature, and each carries a key message on a wildlife conservation issue and a call to action. Sign up as an event volunteer and help us  spread the conservation message.   

Some of our annual events include:

  • Lunar New Year awareness booth (Lunar New Year period)
  • Zoolympix (June School Holidays)

Pre-requisites  

  • 15 years of age and above
  • Enjoys interacting with people

Training

  • 2 – 5 hours, based on nature of the event

Commitment  

  • Minimum 2 full days during the event period

Join us as an event volunteer by filling in this form. Volunteer slots for our events are limited and will be based on availability.

Wildlife Buddies (Corporate) 

Wildlife Buddies are short-term volunteers who serve as buddies (guides) for children, the elderly, or the disadvantaged to facilitate meaningful and memorable visits to our parks. This is most suitable for companies who wish to volunteer in groups and give back to the society at their own time.

Suitable for

  • Companies seek to engage the community through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Training

  • 2-hour training based on specific needs and schedule
  • $10 per participant. This excludes admission fees.
  • Minimum of 20 participants per training session
  • For companies with less than 20 participants, a group training fee of $200 applies

Guiding

  • Participants are ready to guide beneficiaries immediately after training session
