Festival of Biodiversity 2017

Festival of Biodiversity 2017

About

The Festival of Biodiversity is an annual event organised by the National Parks Board in collaboration with various organisations in Singapore that are involved in local biodiversity conservation. Initiated in 2012, the Festival of Biodiversity aims to showcase Singapore’s impressive and unique array of biodiversity and to foster a sense of appreciation for our natural heritage.

Activities

Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) has set up a conservation booth at the festival during all six years. This year on 27 and 28 May 2017, we were at Nex Mall, presenting ‘Go Green for Wildlife’.

We shared sustainable practices that people can practise to benefit the environment and wildlife. All visitors were encouraged to take a simple sustainability pledge that they can practise in their daily lives.

In total, we collected 162 pledges over two days.

Visitors were also encouraged to look out for sustainable products when they shop at Nex and to take a photograph of the sustainability logo (FSC, Rainforest Alliance, RSPO, MSC or Green Label) to win a prize at our booth.

Around 20 visitors who found sustainable products were awarded prizes. Other visitors shared that while they were not aware of these certifications, they will look out for them while shopping in the future.
