How was Pierre’s condition when he arrived? When he arrived, he was having arrested moulting which basically means his feathers were not waterproof and he was thus unable to swim well. He was also having low appetite.
What did you do to help him?
We made significant changes to his environment, like lowering the temperature. We also provided different types of substrates, like turf mat, pebble wash and rocks for him.
Diet-wise, we gave him capelins filled with nutrients in hopes that this will boost his body fat content and help promote his feather growth. He was also introduced to other penguins.
As a result, his appetite slowly increased and he started socialising. Eventually, Pierre was moulting properly.
Any future plans for Pierre?
